When does a habit turn into an addiction? There’s no bright line, no rule of exactly when it happens. The vast majority of people who want to change their drinking, drink less or even stop aren’t addicted, they’re not looking to escape withdrawal symptoms like tremors or shakes or nausea. They’re simply questioning their drinking habits and questioning the role alcohol has started to play in their life.

That was me. I knew I didn’t need to go to meetings, declare myself powerless in the face of alcohol, go to rehab or recovery. None of that. And even though my struggle was comparatively mild, it was annoying and I wanted to sort it out. But there wasn’t a lot of help available. Traditional routes pointed to recovery and that’s was about it. So I figured it out for myself.
