“I feel so conflicted – I want the wine but I don’t want the wine. What is wrong with me?”

I hear this A LOT.

As we lay down the desired behaviour of the new habit, the brain holds onto the existing habit for just a bit longer. Our brains are designed to efficiently process repeat actions. So it’s going to take time to change behaviour.

But it can feel scary to have competing desires. To decide to do one thing (such as say no to the drink) but to really, really, really want to do something else (such as say yes to the drink).
