Learning how to handle anxiety is a key life skill.
Anxiety is an emotion that most of us will experience at some time in our lives. It’s what we feel when we are worried, tense or afraid – particularly about things that are about to happen, or which we think could happen in the future. It’s a feeling of generalized worry, fear, apprehension or nervousness. With anxiety you often can’t put a finger on what’s making you feel anxious – you can wake up feeling it for no apparent reason. And that’s part of the problem. It’s not a situation you can tackle head on and say “right I’m going to sort this out” because you don’t know what’s causing it.
Whether you experience it regularly or not, we’ll all feel anxiety at some point. You feel it in your body. Maybe lurch of stomach, tightening across the shoulders. We often aren’t sure how to handle this. We think something has gone wrong and that we have to get rid of the anxiety as soon as possible.
Anxiety can feel frightening, but the good news is that it’s only an emotion.
